If it were easy to have a super strong and athletic body, everyone would have one. I’d even be lining up and saying “I’ll have two of those please”. Unfortunately, that is not how it works. Due to human nature and our sedentary lifestyles, we have to invest a substantial amount of effort to be ‘fit and healthy’.
So what does it actually take to reach your fitness goal? The right mindset. Because it is not about what you want, it’s about what you are willing to do to get there. This can be applied to losing weight, building muscle and everything in between.
Let’s break it down. You need a goal, knowledge, determination and persistence to achieve your fitness goal.
Having a goal is pretty self-explanatory. If you don’t know where you are going, how are you going to get there? Similarly, there is a certain amount of knowledge that is required to achieve your goal. Would you agree that if you didn’t have a map to follow, it would be difficult to reach a specific destination?
With these obvious factors aside, what your fitness goal will come down to is determination. How badly do you want to lose 10kg of fat, gain 5 kg of muscle or be able to lift twice your bodyweight? What are you willing to do to reach your goal?
Are you willing to eat food that might not be as tasty or appealing? Are you prepared to put the hours into your training? Are you ready to invest in the accountability, guidance and support of a personal trainer? Are you strong enough to not hit the snooze button and go for that early workout? Do you want your goal bad enough that you make exercise a part of your lifestyle, rather than a chore?
Lastly, you need persistence. As you know, your body does not change overnight and it requires a consistent stimulus to do so. This means repetition. Making consistent choices day in and day out that are going to allow you to reach your goal. You may have challenges and obstacles that try to throw you off course, for example Christmas, but you have to stay persistent and think about how badly you want to be that better version of you.
To reiterate today's take away point; it is not about what you want, it’s about what you are willing to do to get there. Get It done legends!
